What is Family Promise?

Easter Vigil

Saturday, March 31

This will be a joint service with our friends from Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, held at Shepherd of the Hills.  As has been done since antiquity, this service begins outside with the kindling of a new fire, the lighting of candles, a procession into the Church, and hearing readings that tell us of God’s relationship with us from the very beginning of time.  With news of the Resurrection, lights come up, the “A” word returns, and we ring bells every time we hear “Alleluia!” in the service from that point on.

  • Large plastic bags will be given to parishioners desiring them.
  • Each day in Lent, parishioners put a household item, a toy, etc. in the bag.
  • At Easter, we have an in-gathering of all the bags and donate them to a yet to be determined charity or charities.
  • The Charities we are considering are Big Brother/Big Sister, Salvation Army, and Roots & Wings.

Suggestions for 40 Items:

Good Friday

Friday, March 30

At the evening liturgy, we follow the ancient three-fold practice for the day of hearing the liturgy of the Word; venerating the cross; and taking communion from the reserve sacrament.

Good Friday Service

Friday, March 30

On Good Friday we commemorate the death of Jesus Christ on the cross to atone for the sins of the world.

Maundy Thursday

Thursday, March 29

At this service, we blend traditional and contemporary liturgy to commemorate Jesus’ Last Supper with foot washing, the Holy Eucharist, and the stripping of the altar.

Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, February 14

Join us on Wednesday, February 14 at 12:00 pm & 7:30 pm for our Ash Wednesday Liturgy. All are welcome to attend.

The loving message of Ash Wednesday is that yes, indeed, each one of us will die. But as Christians, we live in God’s love and we will die in God’s love. Ash Wednesday reminds us that while our bodies are mortal and finite, the essence of Love at our core—that is one with God—is eternal.
