On April 14h, the Outreach Committee will be hosting a Sole Hope shoe cutting party! Everyone in our parish is invited to come party with us!
Sole Hope is a not-for-profit organization which helps Ugandans fight chigger infestation in people's feet. Chiggers are nasty sand fleas which burrow into people's feet and toes and lay eggs under the skin. Untreated, they cause infection, incredible pain and in some instances, amputation is necessary. Sole Hope sponsors mobile foot washing clinics throughout the country, washing people's feet, inspecting them and removing jigger larvae if needed. They provide medical supplies to parents to help heal their children. They also provide shoes to protect their feet and keep them jigger free.
And now, this is where we can make a difference! At our party, we will be recycling old pairs of blue jeans by cutting them up and making uppers for the shoes that Sole Hope will give away! There is a job for everyone at this party - children and adults of all ages can play a part! And we will have a delicious dinner once our shoes are made. So mark your calendars for February 20th for a great way to break up the winter doldrums.
In the meanwhile, bring any old jeans you may have hanging around in your closet or dresser this Sunday or next Sunday. And if anyone is a quilter or seamstress and has scrap cotton fabric at least a quarter yard in length, bring that in as well. We will need that for lining fabric. We will be collecting jeans the next two weeks for this project!
